GroenLinks Amsterdam is concerned about the large amount of unfocused gambling advertisements in the capital, and therefore advocates a ban.
In Tilburg, where GroenLinks is the largest, a ban on outdoor advertisements for online gambling will take effect next year. Now it also seems to be Amsterdam’s turn, where the party wants to implement the same. To further protect the most vulnerable group, the youth, it wants to go a step further, by also banning gambling advertisements in Amsterdam schools. In addition, it advocates education, by making the risks of gambling part of school programs on media literacy. Since the legalization of casino games, the making of non-targeted gambling advertisements has been a major concern, even at the national level.
For example, as of June 30, 2022, there is a legal ban in the Netherlands on the use of role models in advertisements for online casinos and sports betting sites.
